Experience South Tyrol

Hike and indulge

It is no longer a secret that South Tyrol is one of the most beautiful destinations for hiking holidays. Variety of landscapes along the alluring natural panoramas and the easy access to the well taken care of hiking paths play a major role in this. The Arua above the roofs of Merano and at the feet of the Gruppo Tessa mountain range is the ideal starting point. For hikes of every difficulty level. Take a leisurely walk, hike or climb mountains. You’ll never be without a fascinating panorama. With a great view of the spa town of Merano.

Lakes

South Tyrol’s lakes. Usually high up on a mountain. Reachable on well cared for paths. You can also take a cable car. Like to the Spronser lakes, for example. The 10 lakes lie in the eastern part of the Gruppo Tessa mountains amidst a fascinating natural landscape. It is the highest situated lake district in Europe. Truly a remarkable hiking destination.

Hikes

Every step you take in nature revives you. It frees you. The silence of the mountains, the small wonders lurking at the side of the path. Let them all work their magic on you. The most beautiful hikes start right behind the Arua! The Mut farms, the Mut peak, the Meraner Höhenweg high route, the Passerschlucht hike that takes you into an amazing gorge... The possibilities are endless.

Leisurely walks

You don’t have to climb the highest peak to really enjoy and feel the beauty of the mountains and nature. You can just as well do that from one of the wonderful promenade walks above Merano. For example the ‘Tappeinerweg’: it takes you from Merano to Tirolo. Maybe you prefer one of the lovely Waalwege (paths with a little stream following along) that serpentine their way through fruit trees and vineyards. They’re also ideal for an evening jog or to go nordic walking.

Castles

Castle Tyrol, Castle Lebenberg, the Brunnenburg Castle, Castle Kallmünz, the Trauttmansdorff Castle... Castles, palaces and estates distinguish South Tyrol’s cultural landscape. Exposed and full of important history they invite you to explore times long past and the story of the region they were built in. At the same time they make excellent hiking destinations and viewpoints!

Thermal baths Merano

Forget about the everyday life and enjoy pure well-being... That’s the motto of the thermal baths in Merano located in the heart of the spa town. 25 Pools, indoor and outdoor, plenty of saunas, relaxation rooms, spa and a fitness room. Everything you need to truly relax. 365 days a year.

Winter sport

The Arua is surrounded by dreamy ski resorts with perfectly prepared slopes. Toboggan runs, ski schools, authentic alpine huts and inns invite you to come explore the area. Our tip for you: Merano’s “personal” ski resort, Merano 2000 is only about half an hour away. Fun times in the snow for adults, kids, beginners and pros alike!

Golf

The South Tyrolean golf courses offer plenty of diversified fun of the highest level - and as a bonus they’re embedded in the most dreamlike landscapes.
